Prologue
He glanced around the corner of the
alley. Blast! He thought angrily.
She's still talking to that witch! How long can two people converse? He
had been told by a secret source that at four pm she would walk by, and he
would “kidnap” her and take her to a certain place at a set time. He would get
a lot of cash for this. He gave a slight
smirk as he thought about the money.
Then he remembered the girl. She
was the sixth child he was to “kidnap,” and it was only Wednesday! He sighed
tiredly. He peered around the corner again.
Here she comes. Better get this ready... he pulled a strip of duct
tape off the roll with a SCRRRRTCH! He tucked the corners back and stuck
them to his black gloved hand. He
guessed where her mouth would be and readied himself. As soon as he saw her black hair, his taped
hand shot out and slapped her mouth. His other hand snaked behind her and
snatched her backpack. He yanked her
into the alley with him. The girl tried
to yelp, but the duct tape on her mouth silenced her. She looks so confused. Heh heh. She reached up to pull it off, but he
snatched her hands and deftly pulled them behind her back. He quickly wound another strip of duct tape
around her wrists, holding them in place, even though she struggled. Sorry, girl. Precautions strictly tell me to
do this. He pulled her to her feet and frog marched her to a black idling
car. He opened the back door and pushed
the still struggling girl into the backseat.
He felt an unusual twinge of remorse.
He frowned slightly and shook himself to rid himself of the unsettling
feeling. He slid silently into the
driver's side of the sleek vehicle. The
car pulled away with a purr. There was
no sign of the kidnapper left except the faint smell of exhaust.
l
It was almost midnight now. The girl had been sleeping for some time now.
The man glanced in the mirror at her, reluctant to wake her up. They were at their destination now. They had been for an hour. He twisted in his seat, his back cracking
loudly. He glanced back at her
quickly. She shifted and sighed. He
reached back and gently pulled the duct tape off of her mouth. It immediately
lost its stickiness when he touched it. He pulled it from her wrists as well
and put the pieces of discarded duct tape in a bag.
A deep blue car silently slid into the space
across the parking lot from the kidnapper’s car as he shook the girl awake. She
had stopped struggling a few hours ago. He
got out of the car and opened her door. She
slid out and he grabbed her upper arm. She glared up at him. He shrugged apologetically. Sorry, girl. More precautions. He didn’t
even know this girl’s name. He felt more remorse. The man was not feeling like himself tonight. He hurried over to the blue car and shoved
her into the back. The passenger’s
window rolled down slowly and an old hand creaked out, holding a briefcase. He
snatched it and walked away as the car started and pulled out. He didn’t turn around as he felt the girl’s
glaring green gaze burning into the back of his head through the glass of the
blue car until it turned a corner and disappeared from view. He thought, if looks could kill… and got into his car and pulled away.
